Great Blue Herons
February 24th to 28th 2010
The Great Blue Herons at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve were gearing up for their mass settlement in the heronry by gathering in groups in the trees and along the banks of the North Lagoon at the beginning of the week. By now, we have been to the very busy heronry several times and have found it humming with activity. Almost every nest is occupied with herons and there are several new heron nests being built. Out on the field across from the heronry there are often many of the herons finding lunch before gathering more sticks for a nest.
