Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
October 1st to 3rd 2010

Three more days and three more walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, B.C., Canada.

Fall Asters are blooming along the edges of some of the paths now.

Bushtit flocks are passing through; we saw them just as they were leaving the area but managed a couple of quick photos.

Canada Geese are often seen here; these were landing at the South Lagoon.

Two Cooper’s Hawks were seen in the distance at the Salwein Creek area.

A small Hawk perched over our heads while we watched it.

Great Blue Herons were seen as usual.

House Finches were enjoying a bit of warmth from the sun.

Mallards were seen as usual.

Ring-necked Ducks and American Wigeon have arrived and will spend the winter in our area.

Wood Ducks were seen from the East Bird Blind.

Song Sparrows were singing in several locations.

A young Turkey Vulture flew overhead.

Yellow-rumped Warblers were harder to find but some were still passing through.

A Common Yellowthroat foraged across the Salwein Creek while we watched from the North Bridge.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for visits with Janet, Ann, Leona, Gordon, Val, Eileen Herm and Brenda.
