Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary
October 6, 2010

We have wanted to take another walk at the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary on Westham Island for awhile. Here is a link to their website: http://www.reifelbirdsanctuary.com/

When we entered the long driveway, there is a slough along the edge which was packed with thousands of Mallards and Northern Pintails.

A cute little hybrid duck was with the large flocks of ducks at the entrance.

Now that we know where the Black-crowned Night Heron hangs out, we had to stop to get a few photos.

More Northern Pintails were easily photographed along the walk.

There was a Great Blue Heron found on a nice log island.

Several small flocks of Long-billed Dowitchers were enjoying foraging in the water.

We were wandering along when 15 Sandhill Cranes flew over our heads. When we got to the area where they were, it turned out that there were 23 Sandhill Cranes there, including the two resident Sandhill Cranes and their “little” one.
