October, 2013

October 3rd to 9th 2013

It is always enjoyable to take a walk at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, B.C.

Asters are now blooming at the edge of some of the paths.

A Bewick’s Wren was seen for a few seconds.

Northern Red-Shafted Flickers were seen.

Fox Sparrows were heard singing and found near the parking lot.

A Frog was found on one of the trails.

Golden-crowned Sparrows were seen.

A few Cackling Geese were seen with Canada Geese in a farm field across from the Heronry.

Green-winged Teal and a Mallard were seen sleeping on a log.

A Hairy Woodpecker was busy looking for insects.

A Hoverfly was seen on a milder day.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen.

Lincoln’s Sparrows were found.

Mallards were seen enjoying a moment in sun on a log.

Northern Shovelers were seen paddling along.

Song Sparrows were seen in several spots.

A White-throated Sparrow was seen one afternoon.

Wood Ducks were easily the most active of all the ducks and easy to find.

Yellow-rumped Warblers were very busy as they passed through our area migrating south.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop where we enjoyed visits with Pearl, Muriel, Alice, Dick, Janet, Orson, Leon, Janet, Val, Jean and Gordon. We also enjoyed visiting with Dave B., Mary, Jon, Janet, Anne, Bene, Joanna, Grace and Rod on the trails.
