December 1st to 5th 2013

We enjoyed our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve this week.

Bewick’s Wrens were seen on several days.

Black-capped Chickadees were seen everywhere.

Double-crested Cormorants were seen every day.

The resident Bald Eagle was checking out the Salwein Creek area.

Fox Sparrows were seen in the forested areas.

Golden-crowned Sparrows were seen in a few different areas.

The resident Great Horned Owl was seen roosting in an evergreen.

There was a Hermit Thrush beneath the Owl.

Hairy Woodpeckers were seen on a couple of days.

Great Blue Herons will be returning at the end of February but we saw one this week.

Anna’s Hummingbirds were visiting the area near the feeders at the Rotary Interpretive Centre.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen every day.

River Otters were seen in the Salwein Creek.

Gray Squirrels were seen in the forest.

Spotted Towhees were also seen in the forest.

White-crowned Sparrows were seen.

The visiting White-throated Sparrow was seen in the forest.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop and enjoyed visiting with Janet, Val, Janet, Barb, Yonase, Ann, Pearl and Delia. We also enjoyed chatting with Rod, Ken, Rick, John, Don and Jon on the trails.
