June, 2014

June 20th to 25th 2014

We enjoyed our walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve this week.

There were several Northern Red-shafted Flickers seen along the trails.

Willow Flycatchers were seen in several locations.

The young Great Blue Herons continue to leave the nest, by the end of the month, most of them will have fledged. There were a few adults seen enjoying freedom from having to feed demanding chicks.

The Ospreys were guarding their nests and fishing nearby.

Savannah Sparrows were seen on fence posts.

White-crowned Sparrows were seen in large numbers, a lot of them carrying insects to hidden nestlings.

Male Wood Ducks are now in their summer plumage.

We saw many Common Yellowthroats but they were not close enough for photos.

Cedar Waxwings were seen in good numbers.

We enjoyed visits with Janet, Ann, Bob, Frank, John, James, Petra, Phil, Dave, Sharon, Larry, Rod, Manuel, Grace, Janet, Mary, Catherine and Jon on the trails. We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Gift Shop for nice visits with Gordon, Janet, Val and Barb.
