December, 2018

December 6th & 7th 2018

We enjoyed our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.

The Canvasback which Janet first spotted last month, is still continuing on the South Lagoon.

Double-crested Cormorants were seen resting on logs.

A female Downy Woodpecker was seen along the way.

Canada Geese were in the field next to the Heronry.

A young Great Blue Heron was perched in a tree above the trail while an adult Great Blue Heron stalked it from the trail below. The adult performed several aggressive moves from below, eventually getting onto a log nearby to watch the young bird.

Dozens of Mallards performed bonding rituals in a few locations.

Wood Ducks were seen as well.

The Peregrine Falcon returned to perch on a bare branch to watch for its brunch.
