Green Heron
August 5, 2011

We stopped to take photos of a Green Heron on the fallen tree across the North Lagoon at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, B.C., Canada today. You can imagine our surprise when after ten minutes of photographing it; we discovered that it had a friend. There was another Green Heron on the same fallen tree much further up the trunk. After awhile, they got close enough together for us to get a few shots of the two of them together on one tree trunk. We were totally amazed when one of them leaned out over the edge of the trunk and stretched out to snag a fish in the water far down below and recovered to eat it in one gulp on the same spot without falling into the water.
