Cosumnes

Cosumnes River Preserve (pronounced Ka-sum-neez) 13501 Franklin Blvd., Galt, California was our next stop along our way, which we visited both ways on our road trip. Here is the link to their website: http://www.cosumnes.org/

We found warm weather here; did we say warm, it was hot, extremely hot. The thermometer was reading in the mid-nineties Fahrenheit. We took a rather long walk around though and enjoyed ourselves immensely, although it was unseasonably warm.

Marshes, boardwalks, sidewalks and trails with lovely bridges over incredible wild flowers were enchanting to wander through.

Sandhill Cranes flew overhead and were seen in fields.

Crayfish were colourful and buried themselves in the mud.

Dragonflies were flying around us and mating in cozy corners.

Great Egrets ignored the heat and us while fishing or perching in trees.

Yellow-rumped Warblers were seen in abundance.

Dozens of Northern Pintails, Green-winged Teals, Northern Shovelers, Dowitchers and Stilts were seen in the marshy areas.

Fence Lizards sunned themselves on the pavement or scurried out of our way as we walked along.

A Fox Squirrel was happily eating something in a tree near our path.

Hummingbirds hovered and perched in Willows and other shrubs.

Dozens of American White Pelicans flew overhead.

Nuttall’s Woodpeckers were seen in the forest.

Black Phoebes chased insects.

Western Scrub Jays stayed out of reach of our camera lenses, except one.

Snowy Egrets preened and perched.

Turkey Vultures flew overhead.

The parking lot wildflowers were covered with Butterflies.

We found this a delightful place to visit again for sure; we enjoyed Cosumnes River Preserve twice on our road trip.
