November, 2011

November 27th to 30th 2011

November is coming to a close and we have decided that generally, the weather was pretty good. Our walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve have been pleasant although chilly and dark, at least most of the time, we found a chance to get out without too much rain. There were a couple of stormy days but we can’t complain. The sun was out for most of our walks this week, although it was early in the morning and not as bright as later in the day would be.

Maybe the Double-crested Cormorant wondered why we would be there so early in the day.

A female Bufflehead Duck balanced on a log.

A Black-capped Chickadee was alone without companions this time.

A Downy Woodpecker preened on a high branch at the Salwein Creek Loop.

A Fox Sparrow stopped for a few moments in the same area.

A Hairy Woodpecker was seen every day.

Great Blue Herons were seen every day.

Belted Kingfishers were seen from the East Bird Blind.

Mallards were seen as usual.

Song Sparrows were seen as usual.

A White-crowned Sparrow popped up for a moment.

A treat for us was a Ruby-crowned Kinglet that wanted to pose and pose and pose. We were thrilled.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for nice visits with Bonnie, Barb, Val and Mike also we waved to Leona and William on different days. We enjoyed visiting with Orson, Orla, Wayne and Rod on the trails.
