July, 2013

July 26th & 27th 2013

We had a couple of nice walks over the last two days at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Cedar Waxwings were lined up on a snag over Water Lilies where they kept landing on the Lily Pads to catch insects.

The Osprey was breaking branches off dead trees and taking them to its nest.

A Mink was seen in the distance.

A couple of Hooded Mergansers were seen fishing.

A Belted Kingfisher was seen perched on a snag.

Fledgling Great Blue Herons were seen in several locations.

Three Green Herons were seen near the Osprey nest.

A little Willow Flycatcher was seen on a nest quite a distance away down an embankment.

The resident adult and juvenile Bald Eagles were seen.

A Coyote was coming onto the path from the edge and stopped for a moment before heading into a grassy area.

Beavers were seen with roots in several locations.

We had a nice chat with Rod, Jon, Mary and Yonase near the Heronry.
