September 1st & 2nd 2013

We took our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve over the last couple of days.

A Beaver was seen in a dark, sheltered area.

A small flock of Bushtits flew into the shrubs nearby.

An Osprey was enjoying fish for breakfast.

A Peregrine was seen flying to perch high in a dead tree.

Warbling and Red-eyed Vireos were seen along the trails.

Young Cedar Waxwings were seen in a tree with Hawthorn berries.

Wood Ducks were seen as usual.

A Common Yellowthroat was seen in a Blackberry bush.

A Pileated Woodpecker was seen searching for insects in an old stump.

A Hairy Woodpecker was also seen nearby.

In the same area an adult and juvenile male Downy Woodpecker danced a territorial display for quite awhile. Here is a short video of them.

We had nice visits with John, Frank, Len, Penny, Bill, Jenny, Jon, Mary, Barbie and Martin on the trails.
