September, 2013

September 27th to 30th 2013

Even though it was terribly dark with heavy wind and rain, we had fun on our walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve as usual.

Brown Creepers were found marching up tree trunks in search of insects.

Golden-crowned Sparrows were seen near the edges of the paths.

Ruby-crowned Kinglets were seen in dark underbrush.

Little Lincoln’s Sparrows caught our attention.

Northern Shovelers were seen with Green-winged Teal.

Song Sparrows were also seen.

A Swainson’s Thrush was seen one morning.

Warbling Vireos were seen both days.

White-crowned Sparrows were seen during our walks.

Wood Ducks were seen both days.

We enjoyed chatting with Jon, Janet and Ann on the trails and want to thank all the people who turned out to do a River Clean Up. They are a very dedicated group of people we admire for the work they do to keep our environment clean and safe. Here is a link to their website: http://www.cleanrivers.ca/
