November, 2013

November 22nd to 25th 2013

We always enjoy our walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

One morning we were lucky enough to see a juvenile Gyrfalcon land on a tree in the distance. This is a first sighting for us of this species at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Double-crested Cormorants are usually around at this time of year.

Eurasian Collared Doves are beginning to show up more often.

Fox Sparrows love the forest floor.

American Goldfinches were seen.

Steller’s Jays were seen in the forest.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen in many locations.

Gray Squirrels were seen in the forest.

Spotted Towhees were seen as usual.

Bufflehead Ducks are here for the winter.

White-throated Sparrows were very obliging this week for photo opportunities.

We took a drive through Sumas Prairie where Northwestern Crows were enjoying a few pumpkins left in a field.

Gulls of varying sizes were seen in farm fields.

A few Red-tailed Hawks were seen in different locations.

We enjoyed chatting with Dean, Jon, Mary, Janet, Ann, Bill, Rod, Curtis and Rick on the trails and Janet at the Rotary Interpretive Centre.
