December, 2013

December 12th & 13th 2013

There isn’t much snow left now at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Double-crested Cormorants were seen both days.

A Glaucous-winged Gull chased after a Common Merganser trying to steal its fish.

Bewick’s Wrens were seen for a few seconds.

A Golden-crowned Kinglet was seen flitting through the dark forest underbrush.

The Anna’s Hummingbirds are happily surviving with the help of the volunteers maintaining the Hummingbird feeders outside the Rotary Interpretive Centre.

Song Sparrows were seen in the forested area.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen.

Spotted Towhees were seen in the forest.

Gray Squirrels were seen in the same area.

We want to thank Grace for sighting a beautiful Long-eared Owl. This is the only one that we have ever seen at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

We enjoyed visits with Muriel, Janet, Delia, Pearl, Janet, Ann, Jon, Mary and Billie in the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop and Bob and Grace on the trails.
