American Kestrel

We enjoyed two more days of seeing the American Kestrel family. The fledglings were very active. They would flap their wings rapidly when the adults came into view hoping to be the one to get fed. Each one would “mantle” or cover the food they received immediately upon getting it. Even the adults delivering the food were not welcome to whatever was given. We enjoyed watching them interact with each other, as they have a an obvious strong familial bond. They would do their best to hide by laying against a branch or remaining perfectly still if other people came along, like a jogger, dog walker or someone out for a walk. We feel very fortunate to have seen all this activity.
