January 8th to 10th 2019

We enjoyed our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.

The East Bird Blind had a few Great Blue Herons in the trees and marsh area.

Common Mergansers were seen.

Double-crested Cormorants were seen with an American Wigeon bathing near their drying log.

More American Wigeon were seen in a few areas.

Wood Ducks were seen as usual.

Ring-necked Ducks were seen along the way.

Mallards were seen as usual.

Pied-billed Grebes were seen every day.

The resident Bald Eagles were near their nest while a juvenile was seen nearby.

We saw a few female Red-winged Blackbirds, the males are serenading them at present.

A male Downy Woodpecker was seen near the Rotary Interpretive Centre.

A male Pileated Woodpecker was seen on a snag.

A Peregrine Falcon was seen every day.

Song Sparrows were seen in many areas.

Anna’s Hummingbirds are a resident of our area.

We enjoyed seeing Alyson with Chesney, Sue, Karen and Robert with Roxy, Jock with Hunter, Sue and Lisa with Maggie, Doug, during our walk. We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop for a nice visit with Muriel, Della and Bonnie. This was Muriel's last shift at the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop, we want to say we have really appreciated all the work she has put into volunteering at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. We will miss seeing her in the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop.
