December 27th & 28th 2020

We enjoyed our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.

Common Mergansers were seen fishing and performing a bonding ritual. The males flip water as high as possible while trying to impress the females.

Buffleheads were seen as well.

American Coots and Mallards were seen in many locations.

House Finches were seen as well.

Golden-crowned Sparrows were seen at the Rotary Interpretive Centre feeders.

A male Hairy Woodpecker was seen working on an old tree near the Heronry.

Anna’s Hummingbirds were seen near the Rotary Interpretive Centre feeders.

Steller’s Jays were also near the Rotary Interpretive Centre feeders.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen in many locations.

Lesser and Greater Scaup were seen on both lagoons.

Northern Shovelers were seen in the slough near the Heronry.

Song Sparrows were seen in many spots.

American Wigeons were seen in several locations.

Wood Ducks were seen in the slough.

We practiced social distancing from Connie and William, Christa, Linda doing an inventory for the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop with Bonnie, Heinz with Maggie during our walks.
