April, 2010

April 9th & 14th 2010

We check the Fraser Valley Birding Forum every day and found to our delight that Rick had spotted three Long-billed Curlews on a piece of farmland in East Chilliwack on April 09 2010. We headed out to see them as there are only 500 birds in B.C. They were quite a distance away from us with the sun behind them but we enjoyed seeing them fly up circle the field, land to forage for food and repeat this process over and over again.

While we watched a couple of Eagles flushed them once. We also ran into Jason there and enjoyed a short visit with him; later Rick showed up as well and we enjoyed a visit with him as well.

We also managed to find a few Brewer’s Blackbirds on the side of the road at a farm house as we drove along.

Another field trip was in order when we noted that Rick had spotted 25 Black-bellied Plovers and 3 tiny Dunlin, in the same farm field. Rick showed up while we were there and we enjoyed another visit with him. They were amazing birds to watch as they wandered quietly back and forth through a small wet puddle in the field.
