Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
April 18th to 20th 2010

Our walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve are always fun.

Red-winged Blackbirds hopped onto many visible perches to rest for a minute.

Bushtits hopped around the shrubs near the paths at the Salwein Creek Loop.

Black-capped Chickadees searched every leaf for insects.

An American Coot surprised us at the North Lagoon.

Many Frogs were seen in the marshy edges of the Salwein Creek Loop.

A young Great Blue Heron was fishing behind the East Bird Blind.

A little male Rufous Hummingbird buzzed us a couple of times, with a little “giggle” as he passed. This is a stock photo from last year.

Over a dozen Ruby-crowned Kinglets bobbed, hopped and sang their way through the shrubs next to the paths in the Salwein Creek Loop.

Bruce pointed out a pretty Orange-crowned Warbler which popped its head up from behind a cluster of leaves.

Lady Bugs were seen in many places.

Ring-necked Ducks were found on both lagoons.

American Robins are always visible on our walks now.

Wood Ducks were found on both lagoons.

Our favourite resident warbler, the Common Yellowthroat, has returned to the Salwein Creek Loop. There were two of them singing and chasing each other to our delight.

We waved to Cynthia, Val, Barb, Jenny, Wayne, Hazel and Graham during our walks. Spring time is such a great time to be out walking in nature.
