Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
Vultures
September 19, 2010
We were walking along the Salwein Creek Loop at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve when three Turkey Vultures flew in, landing in the Cottonwoods above our heads. The trio consisted of one adult and two juveniles. They were happy to find a suitable spot to dry their wings after last night’s rainfall. One of the juveniles performed a spinning around technique similar to a very slow whirling dervish act with its wings outstretched. The other young one looked on in fascination while the adult proudly watched over them both with the occasional wing stretch and fluff up.
