Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
April 1st to 5th 2011

The weather has not been very warm but the birds at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve do not seem to notice it.

A small flock of Bushtits surprised us near the main bridge

A Double-crested Cormorant at the North Lagoon has the beginnings of a crest which is grown to impress their mates before nesting season.

Great Blue Herons fish near the edges of pond and the Salwein Creek.

A River Otter crawled out onto the opposite side of the bank of the North Lagoon.

Red-winged Blackbirds sang to their mates.

Ring-necked Ducks were seen on both lagoons.

There are a few Pied-billed Grebes on both lagoons.

A Goldeneye Duck was seen at the North Lagoon.

American Robins were puffed up a bit from the cool, wet weather.

Stellar’s Jays were busily calling to each other.

Salmonberries are starting to bloom bringing a bit of light into the darkness of the forest.

Song Sparrows were perched strategically, singing their lovely songs.

A Yellow-rumped Warbler was seen briefly.

Wood Ducks were hanging around the East Bird Blind.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for visits with Walter, Cynthia, Pearl, Val, Gordon, Laura, Jean, Dick, Janet, Mike and Barb.
