March 8th to 11th 2013

We had our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, B.C., Canada this week.

A Bewick’s Wren was seen singing high in a tree on the tower trail.

Black-capped Chickadees were seen in large numbers.

A lone Bushtit was seen for a second on a Willow.

A Common Merganser was seen in the slough near the Heronry.

Brown Creepers were seen on the tower trail.

Golden-crowned Sparrows were seen on the dike road to the Heronry.

Canada Geese were seen.

A female Hooded Merganser was found resting on a log.

Steller’s Jay were seen in the forest areas.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen on the trail edges.

A female American Kestrel was seen hunting in the field next to the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Mallards were seen as usual.

A Ruby-crowned Kinglet stopped for a few seconds.

American Robins will usually be seen in good numbers until autumn.

Red-winged Blackbirds are displaying for a mate.

Song Sparrows are singing to establish territories and find mates.

Spotted Towhees were seen in good numbers.

Wood Ducks were seen as usual.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for nice visits with Gordon, Delia, Wayne, Janet and Jean. We also enjoyed visits with Bob, Larry, Melissa, Conan, Jennifer, Ben and Rob, as well as waving to Bill and Jenny, Janet and Helmut.
