July, 2014

July 8th to 13th 2014

Our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve were interesting as usual.

Willow Flycatcher were seen in a few spots.

Two Green Herons were seen from the East Bird Blind.

A young Red-tailed Hawk was being harassed by songbirds while we were enjoying a chat with Janet and Ann on their weekly bird count.

A few Great Blue Herons were seen at the North Lagoon and East Bird Blind.

It got really busy at the East Bird Blind, three Belted Kingfishers flew into the area and stayed while we were watching the Green Herons. The Belted Kingfishers were flying at the Green Herons heads for awhile, trying to get them to leave. We eventually left them all to their fishing and arguing.

Two Mallards were swimming at the East Bird Blind.

A Muskrat was busily gathering grass for its den and eating Potomageton leaves at the Salwein Creek.

Trees along the edge of the North Lagoon were reflected on the mirror like water.

A couple of River Otters were seen from the East Bird Blind one morning.

A Sandpiper was also seen from the East Bird Blind.

Song Sparrows are usually found on our walks.

Wood Ducks and young ducklings as well as older ducklings were seen from the East Bird Blind.

We enjoyed chatting with Ritsu, Heidi, Sadie, Rod, Helmut, Selma, Janet, Ann, Leona, Werner, Dave and Bob on the trails. We also enjoyed visiting with Val, Barb, Jean, Alice, Kate, Caroline, Natalie, Len and Dian at the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop.
