July, 2014

July 14th to 19th 2014

We always find something of interest at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

A female Common Merganser was seen with her older ducklings.

A Downy Woodpecker was seen in the distance.

A Green Heron was seen fishing from the wood covering the entrance to the Beaver’s lodge before it flew closer to a log near us.

Great Blue Herons were seen in several spots. One was preening and yawned with gusto.

A Hooded Merganser was seen at the North Lagoon.

Belted Kingfishers were seen from the East Bird Blind.

Mallards were seen nearby.

A Yellow warbler was seen preening near the main bridge.

We enjoyed chats with Mary, Jon, Ann, Janet and Leona on the trails. We also stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for a nice visit with Gordon, Dick and Gerry D.

The Vedder River Clean up was happening on the weekend, the people who work to keep the river clean are a dedicated group of volunteers, without them the river would be a mess. Here is a link to their website: http://www.cleanrivers.ca/pgPeople.aspx
